Sign in to Tether Relay with your work email and password or with single sign-on, and what happens when you're idle or sign out.
You sign in to Tether Relay with the account an Admin in your organization created for you. There’s no sign-up page: if you don’t have an account yet, ask your Admin to add you. See Departments and users.
Sign in with your email and password
- Open your organization’s Tether Relay address. The sign-in page reads Welcome back and Sign in to your account.
- Enter your work email in Email and your password in Password. Select the eye icon at the end of the password field to show what you typed, and select it again to hide it.
- Select Sign in. The button reads Signing in… while Tether Relay checks your details.
Tether Relay opens on Conversations, your inbox, whatever your role. If you were already signed in on this browser, opening the sign-in page takes you straight into the app.
Sign in with single sign-on
If your organization signs in through its identity provider, you don’t need a Tether Relay password.
- On the sign-in page, look under Or continue with.
- Select Sign in with WorkOS or Sign in with Okta, whichever your organization uses. Ask your Admin if you’re not sure.
- Sign in on your identity provider’s page. You come back to Tether Relay and land on Conversations.
Your Admin can turn off password sign-in for your account so that you always use single sign-on. If you try your password then, the page tells you that password authentication is disabled for your account and to use single sign-on instead.
On a phone
The sign-in page works the same way on a phone. The fields and buttons stack to fit the screen.
If you can’t sign in
A red box above Email tells you what went wrong.
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| ”Incorrect email or password” | Check the email address and type your password again. The same message shows when no account uses that email. |
| Password authentication is disabled for this account | Use Sign in with WorkOS or Sign in with Okta instead. |
| Your account has been disabled | An Admin has deactivated your account, or your organization’s access is paused. Talk to your Admin. |
| ”Authentication failed” | Single sign-on didn’t finish. Try again, and ask your Admin if it keeps happening. |
There’s no Forgot password link. If you’ve forgotten your password, ask an Admin in your organization to reset it for you. They set a new password and pass it on to you.
Stay signed in
Tether Relay signs you out after a stretch of inactivity: 30 minutes unless your organization chose a different limit. A few minutes before that, a card in the bottom-right corner counts down with Signing out in and the time left. Move the mouse or press a key on the page to stay signed in.
If the time runs out, Session Timed Out opens over the page.
- If you signed in with a password, enter it and select Continue to carry on where you were.
- If you signed in with single sign-on, Tether Relay tries to reconnect you on its own. If it can’t, select Click to Re-authenticate.
- Select Log Out to go back to the sign-in page instead.
To save something you’re working on first, close the window with the X at its top right. It opens again the next time Tether Relay needs your session. If your organization requires you to sign out when your session ends, there’s no X.
Separately from the idle limit, every session has a maximum length, after which you sign in again.
Sign out
Select Sign Out at the bottom of the sidebar. If you use the top bar layout, open the menu under your name at the top right and select Sign out. Signing out sets you to Away, so no new chats are escalated to you, and returns you to the sign-in page.
If you signed in with single sign-on, signing out of Tether Relay doesn’t sign you out of your identity provider. On a shared computer, sign out of that too.
